The ants are wise creatures we can learn from.

The Ants of today are virtually the same as the ones they have found in fossilized amber. Ants are among the most successful of insects. We can learn a lot of things from the ants. Ants belong to the order Hymenoptera, of the family Formicidae. They may be the most abundant of all land animals on planet Earth. In the Bible, ants are mentioned in Proverbs 30:25, "The ants are a people not strong, yet they prepare their meat in the summer." In Proverbs 6:6-8, "Go to the ant, thou sluggard, consider her ways, and be wise: Which have no guide, overseer, or ruler. Provided her meat in the summer, and gathereth her food in the harvest." Solomon the son of David, King of Israel, gave us some wisdom from the observation he had with ants. Ant species come in a wide range of sizes and colors (black, brown, red, yellowish and combinations of these). Solomon liken ants to people. That is funny, people come in a wide range of sizes and color. But it is the behavior of ants, however, rather than their appearance, that has long fascinated people who study the ant. Solomon when he observed the ant, made some observations. He said, "consider her ways, and be wise: Which have no guide, overseer, or ruler." Ant colonies are mostly comprised of female creatures. Most ant colonies consist of three castes; one or more large queens which lay all the eggs; a few small males, which are produced periodically and mate with the queen(s); and many sterile female workers which form the majority of the colony. Queen ants that have started the colony never leave the nest. The small males stay in the nest. It is the sterile female workers that leave the colony and forage for food. They also are the ones that excavate nests in wood or ground, and defend the nest from enemies. Ant colonies are not ruled by the queen, she is the only egg producer. It is not ruled by the small males, which are periodically produced to mate with the queen. It is not ruled by the sterile female workers either. They are there for food gathering and protection of the colony. Like Solomon said, "ants...have no guide, overseer, or ruler." But they do have team work and are diligent in order to keep the colony from dying out. Solomon watched how they gathered their food in summer and harvested it for the winter months. He told the sluggard, not to waste his time, but to be wise like the ant and grow his food in the summer to be harvested for the winter months. Also Solomon was right, when he said, "consider her ways". Worker ants are female. There is no male ant workers. God told Solomon this. For God was the One who created them. Through Solomon's observation we can learn from the ant : diligence. With all diligence, we as Christians, need to add to our faith : Virtue, knowledge, temperance (self-control), patience, godliness, brotherly kindness, and charity (love). The seven outgrowths of faith (II Peter 1:5-7). "For if these things be in you, and abound, they make you that ye shall neither be barren or unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ " (II Peter 1:8).
